Those of you waiting on your club lacrosse goals won't have to wait much longer. We are told that the goals will ship this week and should arrive shortly. We apologize for the delay, but you'll love them and they'll be worth the wait. Thank you for your patience and for choosing Upstart Sports!
This is when it all happens in the youth sports world. Little League baseball and softball, (and Babe Ruth and PONY too, of course), spring soccer and other seasons like lacrosse. Kids everywhere are putting on the uniforms and making their way out to their individual "fields of dreams," and playing the games they love. We aim to help them by providing the best sporting goods equipment at terrific value. You can help them by being supportive and encouraging, and by volunteering your time at your local sports association. Let's get out and play!
With exciting NBA playoffs and thrilling NHL playoffs happening, along with the new MLB season, we couldn't be much happier. Well, that is until fall when MLB playoffs are occurring just as NFL and NCAA college football season begin. It's always fun to be a sports fan!
Talent that is wasted is one of the most frustrating things there is. Seeing a young athlete who has all the physical gifts, but doesn't have the drive and desire to become the best is sad, to say the least. Conversely, nothing is more rewarding than watching a youngster who doesn't have all of the natural tools work hard and improve on their own. We applaud those second types of individuals and believe we have a vast array of great training products to help make them better. If you are a baseball player, our tees, pitching machines, hitting nets, batting cages and stretching bands are just a few of the products that will make you better. And we're also here for lacrosse, football, soccer and other sports as well.
There is no better feeling than overcoming adversity and rising to the top. Keep working harder than anyone else and you'll achieve all of your dreams. We hope most youth league coaches understand the importance of teaching good sportsmanship. In Little League, AYSO Soccer, travel baseball or travel soccer, lacrosse...any youth athletic endeavor...learning to be a good sport and to play fair might be the most important lesson a coach can teach.
But what does that mean? Many coaches believe that sportsmanship means shaking hands with the opponent after a game. But isn't there much more to it? Coaches who "bend" the rules of substitutions, playing time or positions are sending a clear message to their players that it is OK to cheat if it gives you an advantage over the other team. How about baseball coaches who steal signs? Or teams that allow their players to yell loudly in an attempt to distract the opponent. Or what about a coach who tries to "get inside the head" of a young player on the other team. Yes it is fine to try to win, (within reason) and we all want to have our players taught fundamentals. But along with those responsibilities let's not shirk our primary duty of making young athletes good citizens who will be fair and just to others when they go out into the "real" world. If you have kids playing youth soccer, baseball, lacrosse, softball or other organized youth sports, we're here for you. Not only do we strive to bring you unique and hard-to-find products that you may not have found on your own, but we're working with leagues and institutions to equip them with the best items to fit their ever-changing needs. As always, we welcome your input. If there are specific products or product categories you'd like to see us add, please drop us a note at [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, enjoy those games and practices with your kids!
We're big supporters of college athletics. Many of our products such as the MVP Team Shelter, our lacrosse goals and our pitching machines are used by colleges and universities small and larger across North America.
According to the NCAA, there are now more than 472,625 student-athletes participating in athletics - an all-time high. While there are still more men competing than women (56.6 percent of the total student-athlete population) the number of championship teams sponsored for women rose by 140 whereas the mens' side increased by 111. The average number of student-athletes at NCAA schools in 2013-'14 was 430. The largest growth came from lacrosse in both women’s and men’s sports. Twenty-nine women’s programs were added in 2013-14 to go with 20 additional men’s teams. The next-largest increase was in golf with 23 more teams, You're tired of losing. Tired of having your kids play their hearts out, only to come up short game after game. This baseball season can become a grind if you don't get a spark of life. May we recommend Winning Secrets? This is the youth league coach's owners manual or how-to guide. You'll learn everything you need to ensure your team is the most feared in the league - even if you don't necessarily have the best players. From base running to defensive strategies, to running effective practices and ways to motivate players, this book has it all. Guaranteed to get your team and extra handful of wins and, with a little luck, the league championship! Great for softball coaches too!
Don't go another game without being the best coach you can be. The author won his Little League's championship in nine of the eleven years he coached, in ultra-competitive Southern California, so you can bet that there's a tip or two in Winning Secrets that will give you the edge on the competition. We'd love to hear your thoughts on fundraisers for youth sports. Fundraising seems to be considered a "necessary evil," something no one likes to do but which needs to be undertaken nonetheless. Are some fundraisers better than others? Has anyone figured out the magic formula for an easy fundraiser that actually raises good money? Send us your thoughts to [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you!
