Equal pay for soccer women?

It has come to light that U.S. women’s soccer players are given meager salaries, with emphasis on the women’s minimum salary of $6,842 compared to the male players’ new $60,000 minimum, up from last season’s $36,500 minimum. However, should women be paid the same as men, just because? There are some who point to the reality of economics and, specifically, supply and demand. The perfect solution would be to market the women's game so well that demand rises, and that's when pay will increase as well.
