The other day we observed a volunteer baseball coach dragging the field after practice was over. Since the practice ran a little late there had been many parents watching the end, waiting to pick up their sons. Now, everyone was long gone except for the coach and his son who was lying in the outfield grass watching his dad walk in circles with a heavy drag behind him. And guess who had probably prepped the field the same way before practice several hours earlier?
Wouldn't it have been nice for one of the parents to step up and tell the coach to head home and get dinner, that he'd drag the field? Wouldn't that be a terrific show of appreciation? Better yet, how about the team parent organize a schedule where one family each week is responsible for field maintenance. It seems like the least we can do to help out the folks coaching our kids for free.
